Casey equalizer forces Fire to share points with Rapids

06/09/2010 - Bridgeview, IL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Conor Casey scored the equalizer in the 91st minute to help the Colorado Rapids earn a 2-2 draw at Toyota Park vs. the Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer action on Wednesday night.

By earning a share of the points on the road, the Rapids (6-3-2) extended their unbeaten run to four games.

Colorado scored the game's first goal in the 23rd minute when Casey's strike partner, Omar Cummings, scored his third goal of the season after a buildup in the offensive third.

Midfielder Mehdi Ballouchy started the chance when he drew three defenders to him on the right side before playing a through-ball to Casey. Casey then flung the ball into the Chicago penalty area where Cummings deflected over goalkeeper Matt Pickens.

But the Fire answered less than two minutes later off a free kick. Baggio Husidic took a touch to Marco Pappa on the chance and the Guatemalan fired home, near-post and through the defensive wall.

Chicago went up 2-1 in first-half stoppage time when a ball from defender Wilman Conde in the back was skipped to Husidic in the penalty area. Husidic then played a pass to Pappa and he slotted the shot past Pickens and a diving defender into the left-post side-netting for the 2-1 advantage heading into the break.

It was Pappa's second goal of the game and fifth of the season.

It looked like it would be enough to earn the full points for Chicago (3-3-5), but Casey's header off a Jamie Smith cross in stoppage time forced the home side to share.

Both teams take a two-week break for the World Cup, with the Rapids playing at Houston on June 26, and the Fire playing at New England a day later in their next MLS fixture.
