Texans name Dennison offensive coordinator

01/13/2010 - Houston, TX (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Houston Texans named Rick Dennison the team's offensive coordinator Wednesday.

The move reunites Dennison with Texans head coach Gary Kubiak, as the two had coached together in Denver, both starting with the Broncos in 1995. Dennison was Denver's offensive coordinator from 2006-08 after Kubiak left for Houston, but this past season was offensive line coach under first year head coach Josh McDaniels.

Dennison now becomes Houston's offensive coordinator after Kyle Shanahan moved on to hold the same position with Washington on the staff of his father, Mike.

Dennison, 51, is entering his 16th season in the NFL as a coach, having been an offensive assistant and special teams coach, in addition to his other positions, with the Broncos. Dennison was also a linebacker for Denver from 1982-90.

In Dennison's three seasons as Broncos offensive coordinator, Denver averaged 350.5 yards per game. He inherits a Texans offense that led the league in passing yards per game in 2009, with 290.9. Houston was also fourth in total yards per game (383.1) and 10th in points (24.2) this past season.
