Man United to take on MLS All-Stars as part of North American tour

05/06/2010 - New York, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Major League Soccer announced on Thursday that 2009 English Premier League champion Manchester United will face the MLS All- Stars in the 2010 All-Star Game at Reliant Stadium, in Houston, Texas, on July 28.

"Manchester United are among the most recognized and successful clubs in the world, and we are pleased to have them compete against our All-Stars and two MLS clubs this summer," MLS Commissioner Don Garber said. "We are proud to once again present our supporters with one of the most compelling All-Star Game formats in sports and we believe Manchester United's North American tour will be a tremendous celebration of the sport following the 2010 World Cup in South Africa."

The MLS All-Star Game will be part of a four-game North American tour for United, which also includes matches against the Philadelphia Union and Kansas City Wizards of MLS, and the Scottish Premier League's Celtic FC.

"It's great to be going back to North America," Manchester United Manager Sir Alex Ferguson said. "I enjoyed the last two tours there in 2003 and 2004 immensely. The quality of the facilities is outstanding and there is real enthusiasm in the crowds. It's especially pleasing to be going in a World Cup year, when interest in football will be at its height."

Manchester United will begin the tour on July 16 at the Rogers Center in Toronto, where it will take on Celtic. Five days later United will be in Philadelphia to take on the Union at Lincoln Financial Field.

"We're very excited to be a part of such an international event at a world class facility like Lincoln Financial Field," Philadelphia Union CEO and Operating Partner Nick Sakiewicz said. "Manchester United is one of the most successful clubs in the world and to be able to compete against it as the home team on the heels of the World Cup is a truly special experience."

On July 25, United will take on the Wizards at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.

"This will be one of the biggest sporting events the Midwest has ever seen, and it's a great opportunity for Kansas City to show that we deserve to be one of the host cities for the World Cup," Wizards President and OnGoal CEO Robb Heineman said. "When OnGoal purchased the Wizards we anticipated bringing high-profile teams like Manchester United to Kansas City, and with our new stadium opening in 2011, our fans can expect more games of this caliber in the future."

"Blake Lewis should go far because of his uniqueness and looks.  He's the boy next store with a twist - he beat boxes.  But on top of this, he's a great singer, and I adore him," Payton O'Brien relayed.

A talented beat-boxer Blake Lewis was a hit during the group sing in Hollywood but Simon explained that this is a singing contest just before he told him he was “in.”

Paul Kim has caught our own roving reporter, Jenny Woo's eyes.
